In the wake of relentless rainfall, most of the major rivers in Tripura are overflowing causing widespread devastation in various regions. Besides reports of landslips and road caving in are also pouring in. 

The continuous downpour has not only disrupted daily life but also led to extensive damage to infrastructure, homes, and agricultural lands across West, South and Khowai Districts of Tripura

Local authorities, in collaboration with disaster response teams, have mobilized rescue operations to assist those affected by the rising waters.

In view of the emerging flood situation, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said, “Due to intense rainfall, several areas in the South Tripura district and other districts are experiencing flooding”. 

He added, “Relief centers have been set up to provide support to those affected. The district administration has been instructed to take appropriate action to prioritize public safety and mitigate the impact of the flooding”.

Agartala and surrounding areas severely affected

The water level of the Haora river has been rising continuously following the torrential rainfall, causing widespread damage in various areas of Agartala. The Baladakhal, Chandrapur, and Sri Lanka Basti areas have been the most affected. The administration and NDRF teams have already initiated rescue operations.

The water level of the Haora river has risen dramatically, flooding the national highway from Chandrapur to Resham Bagan Bridge in Agartala city, leading to the suspension of vehicular movement. 

SDRF personnel are engaged in rescuing people stranded in floodwaters. Additionally, in the 31st ward of the 9 Banamalipur assembly constituency, the water from the Haora river has entered people’s homes. 

Since Tuesday morning, the councilor of the area, Anjana Das, along with her team, has been visiting various flood-affected areas.

Senior officials from the police and administration have also rushed to the spot to monitor the situation. 

Furthermore, the administration has set up a temporary relief camp at Swami Dayanand Vidyaniketan in Dhaleshwar.

South Tripura district also faces flood situation

The water level of the Muhuri river in the Belonia subdivision of the South district has risen, leading to a flood situation. Heavy rainfall has caused extensive damage to agricultural land, houses, and roads. Temporary camps have been set up to provide assistance to the affected people. The district administration has been instructed to take appropriate measures to ensure public safety and mitigate the impact of the floods.

Santir Bazar and other areas submerged

The Muhuri river has submerged several areas under Santir Bazar sub division under South Tripura District. The administration has set up temporary camps. Alongwith the administration, local elected public representatives are also touring the affected areas to take a stock of the situation.

Meantime, incidences of landslips and damage in a road in Belonia sub division were reported, however details are awaited.
