In a distressing turn of events, Radhanagar village in Tripura’s Kamalasagar assembly constituency is reportedly reeling from the detrimental impact of a toxic chemical spill allegedly originating from a drilling site of ONGC company.
Reports suggest that the leak has inflicted severe damage upon numerous residents in the area.
As report spread, Chhanda Debbarma, the chairperson of the Bishalgar Panchayat Samiti, accompanied by Radhanagar Gram Panchayat representatives, visited the affected site on Saturday afternoon.
The heart-wrenching plight of the affected families moved Chairman Chhanda Debbarma, as tears streamed down their faces during the interaction.
The detrimental consequences of the chemical leakage became tragically evident as fish in ponds of several families within the Radhanagar Gram Panchayat perished, floating lifelessly in contaminated waters. Furthermore, the spillage has decimated rubber plantations and affected the agricultural lands of numerous individuals in the vicinity.
In a gesture of solidarity and support to the victims, Chhanda Debbarma pledged to engage with high-ranking officials from the ONGC company, vowing to secure compensation for the affected families.
Debbarma conveyed a resolute message, assuring the distraught residents of her unwavering commitment to stand by them through these challenging circumstances.
After Debbarma’s visit, local people commented, as concerns escalate over the environmental and socio-economic ramifications of this hazardous incident, the community remains in a state of distress, eagerly anticipating swift and effective remedial measures to mitigate the pervasive damage caused by the chemical spill.
