Traditional skill-linked businesses like manufacturing innovative products with bamboo and cane are at the core of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar village level local economies, said Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar while he was visiting the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) at Lichubagan, Agartala on Saturday (Aug 13) and interacting with the team of officials led by in-charge Dr Abhinav Kant.

He inspected the skill training facilities at the Institute and was shown several innovative products made of bamboo and cane -including bottles, cricket bat clock, cookies etc– all that had been carved out at the centre.

The BCDI is an apex organization set up in 1974 in Agartala by the Central Government with an objective to fill up the gap in the area of technology-driven and Design and Product Development services in the Cane & Bamboo Sector.

Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar also took part in a Tiranga Rally in Teliamura on Saturday (Aug 14), 40 KMs away from Agartala, as part of the HarGharTiranga movement launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the aegis of the AzadiKaAmritMahotsav.

Chandrasekhar who was accompanied by party leaders and karyakartas, said, “Tiranga is the symbol of pride for every Indian. It has the power is to unite nearly 140 crore Indians. Everyone must join the HarGharTiranga movement by hoisting the Tricolor in their homes. It is important that our younger generations also imbibe the spirit of patriotism and a sense of duty towards the nation.”

Kalyani Roy, MLA & Party Chief Whip in Tripura Legislative Assembly, Amit Rakshit vice president- BJP Tripura State and  President- Chinmaya Mission, Tripura and other prominent leaders were also present on the occasion.

The Union Minister who has been on his first official visit to Tripura since Thursday had several other engagements during the day.

Later, he met farmers and Panchayat officials at Vivekananda Nagar Gram Panchayat, Teliamura, where he was given a warm welcome by the local farmers and villagers. He shared with them the vision of the Prime Minister of doubling Farmer’s income and the groundbreaking success of schemes like PM SammanNidhi, and Soil Health Card among others. He also appreciated the contribution of farmers of this region who produce rice not only for themselves and for their state but for the Nation and for export to other countries.

Chandrasekhar is scheduled to leave for New Delhi today evening, winding up his three-day tour of Tripura.
