Guwahati (Assam), July 4, 2025 : Train connectivity between South Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and the rest of India via Guwahati was restored on Friday after a day-long disruption caused by landslides, railway officials confirmed.

According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), train operations through the Dihakho-Mupa section recommenced on Friday morning. The Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express was the first train to travel through the restored section.

On Thursday, landslides in Assam’s Dima Hasao district severely impacted the railway tracks in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section, halting train services. The landslides caused large boulders and debris to block the tracks, leading to a temporary suspension of operations, Sharma explained. NFR successfully cleared the debris and restored the tracks in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill section after the landslide between Dihakho and Mupa stations, Sharma added.

This marks the second restoration of services in the region within a week. Regular train operations in the same Lumding-Badarpur Hill section resumed on June 30 after a week-long disruption due to landslides that began on June 23 in the same hilly region of Assam’s Dima Hasao district. Landslides, waterlogging, and track damage during the monsoon season (June to September) frequently isolate northeastern states like Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and southern Assam from the rest of India, causing significant challenges for residents.

Following the landslides, senior railway officials promptly arrived at the site and worked tirelessly overnight to clear the debris and ensure the tracks were safe for use, the CPRO stated. To assist passengers during the disruption, help desks were established at Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala stations, providing regular updates until normal operations resumed.

Stranded passengers were also provided with food and water, and rescheduled or regulated trains have now resumed their normal schedules. Passengers are advised to verify train schedules through official railway enquiry channels for the latest information. (Edited)
