Tripura Police, at last, succeeded in rescuing a minor girl on July 27. The girl – a student of Class X – was allegedly kidnapped on July 24 in front several local people at Sonamura under Sepahijala District in Tripura.
Prior to the rescue of the girl, local people along with school and college students came out in numbers and staged protest and vented anger by burning tires at Sonamura tri-junction today.
The agitators questioned efficacy of Police and slammed Police role in rescuing the allegedly abducted girl. Students of Sonamura Girls’ Schools laid siege to the Police station demanding rescue of the girl and punitive actions against prime accused – Moin Uddin and Suleman Mia.
The minor girl, a Class-X student of Balerdhepa area of Kalapania village, had reportedly been abducted by two youths when she was going to tuition about 6 am in the morning on July 24 last. It was reported, local people present at the spot did not dare to stop the miscreants. Soon after the incident came to light, the victim’s family had lodged an FIR at the local police station.
Local sources said, a marriage proposal was sent to the minor girl’s family – but the proposal was struck down. This resulted in alleged kidnapping of the girl.
On July 26, locals staged protest as Police failed to trace and rescue the girl even as 72-hour elapsed after the complaint was lodged. Later on, SDPO of Sonamura Banoj Biplab Das assured that the girl would be rescued within afternoon on July 27.
However, as the girl was not rescued as assured, large number of people, school and college students started agitation and were raising fingers at the Police today (July 27).
Amidst intensive protest, SDPO Banoj Biplab Das and Sonamura PS OC Manik Debnath arrived at Sonamura PS with the girl and two accused persons.
The SDPO said, the girl was rescued from Gargi in Udaipur sub-division under Gomati District. Police faced resistance from the local people while rescuing the girl – however, Police were ultimately successful in rescuing her and bringing her to Sonamura PS at 8pm.
With the rescue of the minor girl, the agitation came to an end.
