Tripura AI Policy for Smart Public Services

Agartala Feb 27: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday announced that the state government is preparing to introduce a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy — a move he described as a first-of-its-kind initiative by any Indian state.

The proposed policy is being drafted with technical guidance from the Atal Innovation Mission under NITI Aayog, aiming to modernise governance and enhance technology-driven public service delivery.

The announcement followed the launch of State Innovation Mission Tripura in Agartala on February 26, 2026.

During the same programme, the state unveiled T-NEST (Tripura: Nurturing Entrepreneurship and Start-ups), marking a major milestone in its IT reform journey.

Saha said AI-powered systems would soon be deployed in Agartala for smarter city management.

These solutions are expected to address traffic congestion, parking regulation, uninterrupted power supply, safe drinking water distribution, flood mitigation, and scientific solid and liquid waste management.

Tripura CM Manik Saha announces India’s first state-level AI Policy with support from Atal Innovation Mission and NITI Aayog; SIM-Tripura and T-NEST launched to boost governance, startups and digital economy.

The Chief Minister also revealed plans to establish an AI Centre of Excellence in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to promote research, innovation and skill development in emerging technologies.

In addition, the government is working towards setting up a Tripura IT and Data Economic Zone to boost IT, IT-enabled services (ITES) and data centre investments.

Dedicated IT parks with co-working facilities and integrated infrastructure are also on the cards to support the growing software and startup ecosystem in the state.

What is Atal Innovation Mission (AIM)?

The Atal Innovation Mission is a flagship programme launched in 2016 by NITI Aayog to foster innovation and entrepreneurship across India.

AIM operates through initiatives such as Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) in schools to nurture creativity among students and Atal Incubation Centres (AICs) to support emerging startups.
