Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor, Dipak Majumder presented a Vote-on-Accounts proposal worth Rs. 142.10 crore for the first four months of the current financial year. The proposal will cover the period from April 1 to July 31, 2023.
The Vote-on-Accounts proposal is expected to generate revenues through property tax collections, building permissions, trade licenses, and other fees.
Majumder said, Vote-on-Accounts proposal was made as the complete budget could not be placed due to the State Assembly polls.
The Vote-on-Accounts proposal will be placed for approval during the council meeting on April 26. The expected Revenue income of AMC during the period from April 2023 to July 2023 is estimated to be Rs. 141.89 crore, while the projected expenditure during the period stands at Rs. 142.10 crore. As per the estimates, deficit stands at Rs. 21.52 lakh.
The Mayor said that special efforts would be made to collect property tax, trade license fees, building permit fees, etc., to meet the deficit. The budget for the financial year 2023-24 will be prepared and presented in the house during the month of July 2023.
“The Vote-on-Accounts proposal aims at generating revenue through various means, to cover the deficit in the first four months of the current financial year. Efforts will be made to collect outstanding dues to meet the deficit,” Majumder said.
The proposal was made to ensure that the Agartala Municipal Corporation can continue to provide its services and cater to the needs of the citizens. According to experts, the revenue generation measures proposed in the Vote-on-Accounts will be closely monitored to ensure that the deficit is met, and the financial condition of AMC remains stable.
