Tripura Pradesh Congress on Sunday announced Ashis Saha as the candidate for by-poll at 8-Town Bordowali Assembly Constituency. Saha was elected in the 2018 assembly polls on BJP’s ticket defeating the Left Front candidate.
The announcement of Asish Saha’s candidature came from Congress state president Birajit Sinha during a Padayatra in this constituency today.
The former MLA expressed that he would secure victory with a huge margin in the ensuing by-polls. He also stated that the BJP-IPFT government had failed to meet the aspirations of the people over the past four years.
Congress national general secretary Szarita Laitphlang, who joined the Padayatra, commented that the people of Tripura would not support BJP this time. She also took part in a party meeting at Congress Bhavan and discussed various organizational matters.
It seems the 8-Town Bordowali assembly constituency is going to witness a tough fight as Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is also very likely to contest from this seat.
If Dr. Saha fights from this constituency, he has to win. On the other hand, the Congress candidate, who earlier fought from this seat on BJP’s ticket, would also make all possible efforts to secure the victory.
In 2018 polls, BJP candidate Ashis Saha had secured 24,293 (61.95 %) votes followed by Biswanath Saha of AIFB 13,115 votes, Congress 1285 votes and SUCI 198 votes.
This time, total 46,583 voters including 22,210 males and 24,373 females are eligible to exercise their franchise. There are 35 service voters and 56 polling stations in this constituency.
The by-polls to four assembly constituencies- Agartala, Bordowali, Surma and Jubarajnagar will take place on June 23 and the results would be announced on June 26 next.
