Much to the surprise of common people a Congress leader in Tripura is found chanting ‘Inquilab Zindabad’ slogan – a slogan frequently used by the communists.

Several unique and unexpected developments are taking place in Tripura in the run up to the Assembly polls in the State slated to be held on February 16 next and counting of votes on March 2 next.

The latest unique and strange thing that bewildered common people was uttering of communist slogan by a Congress candidate during an election rally in Agartala on Sunday.

Congress candidate Sudip Roy Barman, who is contesting from 6-Agartala Assembly seat stunned people as he raised ‘Inquilab Zindabaad’ slogan while he was leading an election campaign programme. Voters of this constituency are traditionally anti-Left and in the past Assembly elections Roy Barman fought against the Leftists. And for quite obvious reason, Inquilab Zindabaad’ slogan by Sudip Roy Barman amazed the locals.

In 2023 Tripura Assembly Polls, Congress and CPIM went to seat sharing tactics to minimize the aplit in anti-BJP votes. According to this tactical understanding, CPIM led Left Front is contesting in 47 constituencies while Congress is in 13 seats.

Moreover, both agreed to hold joint rallies in support of Congress and CPIM candidates and there will be no common minimum programme.

“This is just a seat sharing understanding, not an alliance between the Congress and CPIM”, leaders of both parties pointed out.

In line with the decision of both parties, a joint campaign programme was organized in support of Sudip Roy Barman in the 6-Agartala Constituency area today in which supporters of Congress as well as CPIM took part.

As part of the joint programme, Roy Barman conducted door-to- door campaign at Bitarban, Das Para and Mulla Para areas under 6-Agartala assembly constituency today. He was accompanied by ex-MP and CPIM leader Sankar Prasad Dutta and others.

Supporters of both Congress and CPIM with their respective party flags raised their slogans. As the Left supporters raised ‘Inquilab Zindabaad’, Roy Barman also chanted the slogan which immediately caught the attention of people.
