Tripura’s Legislative Assembly is preparing for its winter session, scheduled to begin on January 5 and last for five days. The session will conclude on January 11. To this end, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting was held at the State Legislative Assembly in Agartala on Thursday.

Tripura-Assembly-winter-sessionIn a press briefing following the BAC meeting, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath disclosed the schedule, highlighting that the session will kick off on January 5 with the customary address by the Governor. However, proceedings will be adjourned on the first day to pay respects to the late sitting MLA Surajit Datta, who passed away on December 27.

Nath indicated that this session is uniquely poised to grant ample opportunities for opposition members to articulate their concerns and take part in discussions on the Governor’s speech.

Initially, the session was expected to wrap up business within three days due to limited agenda items. However, the BAC decided to extend the session to five days, taking into account the viewpoints of all opposition MLAs, Nath informed the media during his interaction with the press.

With the Lok Sabha polls ensuing, the assembly’s upcoming session is anticipated to delve into crucial matters and debates, allowing diverse viewpoints to be expressed and issues to be thoroughly examined within the legislative framework.
