Villagers lock up Panchayat Secy
Aggrieved villagers locked up the Panchayat Secretary and kept him under siege for a long time on Friday. The incident took place at West Kunjaban ADC Village under Kalyanpur Block. As BDO Easter Jantha reached the spot, he too had to face the anger of the villagers. Later, a large posse of Police from Kalyanpur reached the spot to bring the situation under control.
Sources said, villagers were demanding MNREGA jobs for the last five months. Agitating villagers alleged, authority recently sanctioned 5 jobs for MNREGA workers, however, those works were stopped for reasons best known to authority even before those started. As the report of suspension of works spread, people cutting across political affiliation started gathering at the West Kunjaban ADC Village panchayat office and locked the Panchayat secretary along with the Gram Rojgaar Sebak. After the BDO reached the spot, villagers scaled up protests.
Speaking to the media, BDO Jantha assured, within a couple days, REGA works would start. Later, both the secretary and Gram Rojgaar Sebak were freed.
