The deadline for submitting nominations is set for August 17, and it is anticipated that the finalized candidate names will be announced on August 16.
The core committee of the Tripura Pradesh BJP convened a meeting on Monday at the state party headquarters in Agartala to address matters pertaining to the impending by-elections in two Assembly constituencies – Boxanagar and Dhanpur.
Party sources revealed that during the meeting, a total of four candidates – two for each of the aforementioned constituencies – were proposed. The list of proposed candidates was subsequently submitted to Dr. Sambit Patra, the national spokesperson of the BJP, who was in attendance.
Dr. Patra later left for New Delhi with the list for consultation with the party’s central leadership. State officials said that the final decision regarding the party’s nominated contenders for the Boxanagar and Dhanpur constituencies will rest with the central leadership.
It’s noteworthy that the deadline for submitting nominations is set for August 17, and it is anticipated that the finalized candidate names will be announced on August 16.
Following the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed optimism regarding the triumph of BJP candidates in both constituencies. In a social media post, he conveyed that the constituents of Dhanpur and Boxanagar would cast their votes based on the developmental accomplishments of the incumbent government. As a result, he exuded confidence in the party’s success in both seats.
He said, “I am confident that the people of the two constituencies will vote based on the Seva, Sushasan & Garib Kalyan of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji & development works of our govt ensuring the BJP’s victory.”
In attendance at the meeting were BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik, BJP’s national spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra, former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, and other core committee members.
In addition to deliberations on potential candidates, party leaders also discussed and devised a strategy for the by-elections.
As announced by the Election Commission of India, nominations will be subject to scrutiny on August 18, and the final date for withdrawal of candidature is August 21.
Notably, the vacancy in the Dhanpur seat was created due to the resignation of Union MoS Pratima Bhoumik, who contested as the BJP candidate in the previous assembly polls and secured victory. The by-elections became necessary at the Boxanagar Constituency following the demise of CPIM MLA Samsul Haque.
