The Election Commission of India has approved names of the Star Campaigners of BJP and Congress for by-polls in four Assembly Constituencies in the Tripura.
By-polls will be conducted on June 23 in 6-Agartala, 8-Town Bodowali, 46-Surma and 57-Jubarajnagar Assembly seats.
ECI approved a list of 40 star campaigners for BJP and 34 for the Congress for the by-polls in the four seats, AIR News mentioned on Monday evening.
Former Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb is one the 40 star campaigners for the ruling BJP. Besides, incumbent Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmik and MP Rebati Tripura also featured in the list.
Among the notables from outside the State, Chief Minister Assam Hemant Biswa Sharma, Chief Ministers of Manipur N Biren Singh, Arunachal Chief Minister Prema Khandu and others will campaign for the party candidates as Star campaigners.
According to the AIR News, Congress will also engage a host of star campaigners for the by-polls in Tripura. The list of 34 star campaigners includes former Indian Cricket Captain, Azhar Uddin.
Besides, Dr Ashok Kumar – who is already camping in the State, Alaka Lamba, Bhupen Bora and Bijendra Singh will campaign for the Congress nominated candidates.
Congress leaders are also upbeat about Kanhaiya Kumar who has also been included in the list of the Star campaigners.
Along with the leaders from outside, Tripura Pradesh Congress president Birajit Sinha and others have also featured in the list.
However, no such lists are available, so far, for the Trinamool Congress and Left Front which are also contesting in the four Assembly seats.
