Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha exuded confidence and said BJP will register victories in all the four Assembly Constituencies in which by-polls will be held on June 23 next.

The by-elections to four seats: 6-Agartala, 8- Town Bordowali, 46- Surma and 57- Jubarajnagar are scheduled on June 23 and the results will be declared on June 26 next.

After chairing organizational meeting at Town Bordowali on Friday – he is expected to contest from this Assembly Constituency – Dr Saha held such meetings at Jubarajnagar in North Tripura District and Surma under Dhalai district on Saturday.

The Chief Minister presided over a party meeting and discussed the strategies for the upcoming by-polls in Jubarajnagar assembly constituency.

“By-polls will take place in Jubarajnagar among four assembly constituencies. The main objective of the meeting is to design the strategies for the poll battle,” Dr. Saha told the media, adding that he was confident of BJP’s victory in all four seats.

He was welcomed by party karyakartas at ONGC helipad in the North Tripura district. He then joined the party meeting at Chintalohar Bhavan.

Deputy Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, BJP state general secretaries- Tinku Roy, Jadav Lal Nath and other district leaders were present in the meeting. It was Dr. Saha’s first visit to North Tripura district since he became the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, according to party sources, the ruling party is likely to field Dr. Tamojit Nath in 57- Jubarajnagar that fell vacant following the demise of ex-Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly and CPM MLA Ramendra Chandra Debnath.

In 2018 assembly polls, CPM candidate- Debnath secured 18,147 votes (48.90%) followed by Jadab Lal Debnath of BJP 17,498 votes (47.15 percent), Congress 686 votes, TMC 275 votes and Amra Bangali 242 votes.

Dr Saha also visited Surma – another Assembly Constituency that fell vacant after its MLA was disqualified under Anti-defection Act – and held an organizational meeting there.

In 2018 Assembly Polls, BJP fielded Asish Das who won the poll defeating the CPM candidate – however, in 2021, Ashish Das quit BJP to join TMC. He was disqualified from the Assembly membership. In 2018 elections, Ashish Das polled 20767 votes while CPM nominated Anjan Das secured only 18057 votes.
