Tripura’s Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, minced no words in criticizing the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPIM) for their apparent negligence towards developmental initiatives within the poll-bound Boxanagar Assembly Constituency while addressing the ‘Pristhapramukh Sanmelan’ held in Kalamchoura under Boxanagar on Saturday,
Dr. Saha asserted that the constituents had made their stance clear, expressing their determination to reject the CPIM party in the upcoming by-election scheduled for September 5.
The Chief Minister, who continued his visit to the Boxanagar Assembly Constituency for campaigning, revealed his astonishment at the evident lack of progress. Despite having a history of multiple MLAs and Ministers representing the constituency, their presence has dwindled significantly.
The Chief Minister questioned the viability of their campaign strategy and wondered how they planned to resonate with the electorate. “The people’s acceptance of them seems highly unlikely,” he emphasized.
During his interactions with the electorate while conducting door-to-door visits in the constituency, Dr. Saha said that the constituents acknowledged past missteps and were resolute in their decision to rally behind the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), spurning the CPIM.
He underscored the BJP’s commitment to the “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” principle, emphasizing its dedication to comprehensive development.
Dr. Saha extended an appeal to those still aligned with the Congress and CPIM, urging them to unite with the BJP.
“Our government operates with a dual-engine approach, yet many carriages in this system remain unoccupied. Individuals who have previously aligned with Congress and CPIM are welcome to join our ranks,” he said. Exuding confidence, he predicted a triumphant outcome for Tofajjal Hossain, the BJP candidate, in the Assembly elections on September 8.
In recognition of the pivotal role Pristhapramukhs—local grassroots leaders—play in the by-election, Dr. Saha lauded their significance. With over 42,000 Pristhapramuks across Tripura and more than 1000 situated in Boxanagar, he outlined their crucial duty to foster connections and secure public backing.
Dr. Saha expressed his conviction that Pristhapramukhs would be instrumental in securing BJP’s triumph not only in Boxanagar but also in the Dhanpur Assembly.
In a pointed critique, Dr. Saha took aim at certain Congress figures, alleging their propensity for switching parties driven solely by personal gains. He underscored that such opportunistic behavior held no place within the BJP’s ranks. Instead, he emphasized the significance of relentless dedication as the path to positions and recognition.
Prominent figures including BJP State president Rajib Bhattacharjee, former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Food and Civil Supply Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, and BJP’s Boxanagar Assembly Constituency candidate, Tofajjal Hossain, were among the attendees at the event.
The Chief Minister also convened an organizational meeting at the Boxanagar Mandal Office, joined by Shakti Kendra In-Charges and Tripura BJP General Secretary (Organization) GR Ravindra Raju. The event underscored the BJP’s commitment to strategic preparation ahead of the by-election, with State President Rajib Bhattacharjee also in attendance.
