The nomination paper of one Independent candidate for the upcoming by-polls in Tripura was rejected after scrutiny on Friday. Anisur Rahman who submitted nomination papers for the by-polls in Dhanpur Assembly Constituency was rejected today. As per the schedule issued by the Election Commission of India, Friday (August 18) was the day for nomination paper scrutiny.
According to reports, after the scrutiny, nominations of a total of eight candidates – four each in Dhanpur and Boxanagar Constituencies – were declared valid. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is August 21 next and by-polls will be held on September 5 next.
Ruling BJP and CPIM are two major parties to contest in the by-polls as Congress and TIPRA Motha Party opted out of the contest. While Congress extended its support to the CPIM candidates, TIPRA Motha Party is yet to declare any such plan.
While political campaigns by the BJP and CPIM are picking up, people are anticipating a fierce political battle between the two. Even as the outcome of the by-poll will not lead to a change in government, the by-polls will be intense and keenly contested.
Meantime, the administration is also gearing up and preparations are in full swing to ensure a peaceful and smooth conduct of polls.
As Dhanpur and Boxanagar come under the Sepahijala District, the District Election Office held the first training programme for the Micro Observers for the Dhanpur and Boxanagar constituencies at the Bishramganj. District Magistrate, the DEO, Dr Vishal Kumar chaired the training programme.
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Tripura has also taken a slew of measures to ensure maximum participation of voters on September 5 by-polls. The focus of the initiatives is on reaching voters with awareness messages.
In a tweet, the CEO, Tripura wrote, “Voter Awareness Outreach Activities SVEEP has focused on enhancing participation from all categories of voters under ECIs premise of “No Voters to be Left Behind”.
In another tweet, the CEO, Tripura wrote, “Office of the CEO, Tripura has collaborated with TNGCL & TSECL to print voter awareness messages on customer bills for maximum outreach Election Commission of India”.
