For the first time, voters belonging to 80 plus age group as well as the Divyang voters will be able to excercise their democratic rights from home.

The voting through postal ballots by the voters above 80 years and Divyang voters would take place in 6- Agartala and 8- Town Bordowali constituencies on June 17 and 18 next, an official said in Agartala on Tuesday.

“Nine teams have been constituted for 6- Agartala constituency and another 10 teams have been formed for Bordowali seat. The teams will visit homes of the voters in 80 plus age group and Divyang voters in their respective areas on June 17 and 18 next between 8 am and 5 pm for voting through postal ballots,” said Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) and Returning Officer to 8- Town Bordowali seat Ashim Saha.

He along with Returning Officer to Agartala seat – Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav conducted a meeting at Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) conference hall with the representatives of various political parties to discuss the process.

Saha said, if any of the voters, who opted for voting through postal ballots, miss out voting in the two days, they would not be able to exercise their democratic rights in the polling stations. He appealed to all those voters to stay home during the polling team’s visit.

He said, videography would be conducted to maintain transparency during the voting through postal ballots.

Meanwhile, this is for the first time that the Election Commission is going to conduct postal ballot voting for the voters in the 80 plus age group and Divyang voters in Tripura.

The initiative will come as a boon for the concerned voters especially the voters of 80 plus age groups. This facility will also benefit Divyang voters as well.
