Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the government will not compromise with students’ future and would resolve the Kokborok script issue soon.

Dr. Saha said this while addressing the first day of the Tripura Budget Session 2025-26 on Friday.
He mentioned that discussions on the Roman script issue of the Kokborok language had also taken place in the last Assembly.

In the second half of today’s Budget Session in the Assembly, BJP ally TIPRA Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma raised the Kokborok script issue and in reply, the Chief Minister made the statement.

“There were detailed discussions, and a series of talks were held on the issue. We questioned why the Roman script and why not the Devanagari script? Many discussions took place, but no concrete decision was made. Several protests were held, and the leadership met with me. As per the tripartite agreement, this script issue is also included, and talks are ongoing. We must consider the pros and cons of the matter. We will resolve the issue,” said Dr. Saha.

Dr. Saha emphasized that the present government is a government of solutions.

“We respect all communities, traditions, and languages. We also want a final solution. In this year’s CBSE exams, around 1,412 students enrolled, 1,339 attended the exam, and 73 were absent. If the invigilator can understand, then the student will not face any issues. However, we will not compromise with students and their future. We will take steps to ensure that they do not face any problems,” he added.

Notably, Twipra Students’ federation (TSF) – a Janjati students’ organization – started indefinite strike on Friday demanding use roman script for the Kokborok. As part of their agitation the TSF blocked roads across the State including Agartala. This affected the vehicular movement at many places.
