State Secretary of the CPIM in Tripura, Jitendra Choudhury, expressed concerns on Monday regarding the police investigation into the alleged murder of Sub-Inspector Durga Kumar Hrangkhawl from the Kalamchoura Police Station.

He was fatally hit by one of the three speeding vehicles suspected to be involved in smuggling activities in 2019. Recently, all of the seven accused persons were acquitted.

Choudhury, addressing a press conference at the party office today, raised suspicions of a conspiracy and claimed that political interference had hindered the investigation, allowing the actual culprits to evade justice.

Choudhury alleged that the police investigation had failed to substantiate the charges against the accused individuals and, rather curiously, certain individuals were arrested and connected to the incident, only to be subsequently acquitted by the court.

He further claimed that the vehicle involved in the incident, which struck and killed SI Hrangkhawl, was never seized by the police.

Instead, another vehicle was allegedly presented to divert attention from the true circumstances. Choudhury also accused the then Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Souvik Dey of neglecting to document the incident in the General Diary (GD), despite being informed about it at the scene.

In 2019, SI Durga Kumar Hrangkhawl lost his life when he was struck by a speeding vehicle, purportedly carrying drugs, in the town of Kalamchoura, Sonamura. He had attempted to intercept the suspected drug smugglers when the tragic incident occurred.

Choudhury heavily criticized the police investigation, highlighting loopholes identified by the court. He asserted that the authorities deliberately facilitated the escape of the drug dealers involved in the fatal collision, which had claimed the life of SI Hrangkhawl.

On a separate note, CPIM MLA Jitendra Choudhury also targeted BJP MLA Bhagaban Das, accusing him of being implicated in a land acquisition scam related to a tea garden and the tragic chariot accident in Kumarghat.

Choudhury held Das responsible for the last-minute alteration of the Lord Jagannath Chariot’s route, resulting in the death of eight devotees by electrocution.
