Secretary of CPIM state committee of Tripura, Jitendra Choudhury wrote a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha demanding the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder of a minor girl.
In his letter, Choudhury alleged that Dipashree Das, a school girl, was murdered almost a month ago when confined inside the house of one Biplab Sen in Kalachhara, Subroom, South Tripura district under the pretext of Suddhikaran (purification). The Suddhikaran appears to be carried out as the girl was involved in an affair with a boy belonging to a different religion.
Choudhury further alleged that the police have not yet taken any effective action to arrest the criminals responsible for her murder or to unearth the facts of the case, so far.
He also alleged that the Chairperson of the Tripura Women Commission and its members have visited the house of Biplab Sen, the alleged murderer, and received grand hospitality from him.
The CPIM leader said it is a general practice for the Women Commission to make a statement to the press after visiting any place in connection with a case of torture or injustice against women. However, in this case, the Women Commission has suspiciously remained silent.
Choudhury also alleged that Biplab Sen, who is supposedly the prime accused in the case, had a close-door meetings with the Officer-In-Charge of Manubazar Police Station several times.
The father of the victim verbally alleged that Biplab Sen offered him Rs 15/20 lakh through one of his relatives with a proposal to negotiate the case out of court, which the victim’s father denied outright.
Choudhury said that the above eventualities convincingly suggest that there is a systematic attempt to hush up the case and to acquit the actual offenders of the alleged murder of Dipashree Das.
He requested the Chief Minister to constitute a SIT to investigate the case and to first proceed with the arrest of the prime accused, Biplab Sen.
