State secretary of CPIM, Tripura, Jitendra Choudhary smelt a rat in slow voting process across the State during February 16 Assembly polls.

He also expressed suspicion over EVM malfunction in ‘large’ number.

Choudhary, however, saluted the voters’ spirit saying that despite ‘unnatural’ in casting, people waited in long queues patiently and returned home only after casting their votes.

He also blamed ruling BJP for instigating violence during and after the polling and thanked people for more than 90 per cent polling.

Choudhary was addressing a party gathering at Agartala on Monday organized in memory of CPIM worker Mohan Lal Das.

“Tripura witnessed an unprecedented voting on February 16 last amid violence instigated by the BJP party”, he said adding that slow voting and EVM malfunctioning are two major concerns.

The CPIM State secretary admitted that women in large number along with the people of all walks of life especially in the rural pockets of the state came out of their house to reach the polling booths and exercised their democratic rights fearlessly even as BJP was trying to fuel violence.

According to him people voted to oust the ‘undemocratic’ BJP government in Tripura.

Lashing out at the ruling party, Choudhary alleged, “Tripura has never seen such a government, which has been continuously interfering in the personal life and liberty of the citizens of the state. It has dismantled democratic institutions and carried out unabated attacks and violence on opposition party leaders and supporters”.

The leader of opposition and CPIM Politburo leader Manik Sarkar who also addressed the gathering on Monday praised the role of party worker Mohan Lal Das and said that Das worked for social justice and paid equal importance to the party’s movement.

“Das played a key role in almost all the democratic movements of the party, Sarkar said.
