Leaders of the Opposition party in Tripura, CPIM, came down heavily on the ruling party and alleged post-poll violence unleashed by the ruling party activists remains unabated. The party leaders also expressed concern over the role of the Police.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Agartala on Sunday (April 2), CPIM state secretary Jitendra Choudhury alleged, “The ruling BJP party activists started violence across the State after the declaration of the election result on March 2 last. Opposition Party workers and even, innocent families in the state were attacked and looted.”

Choudhury also briefed the media on violence that took place recently at Fatikray, Kamalpur, Pabiachhera and Barjala areas. He said, “I visited the affected places during the past three days and found that many innocent families fell victim to the post-poll violence unleashed by the BJP-backed miscreants.”

The CPIM State secretary expressed anguish and his concern over the role of the police in view of the unabated violence and alleged, “Shockingly in all the incidents, police failed to arrest the main culprits rather they managed to lift the innocent people from their houses.”

Criticizing the ruling party for the unabated violence and attacks on people’s livelihood options, Choudhury said the post-poll violence indicates BJP had not learned any lesson even as their vote share slashed from around 50 percent to 39 percent only. Moreover, the ruling party returned to the House with a lesser number of seats compared to 2018.

Choudhury also slammed the BJP over its MLA Jadab Lal Nath issue who was found watching obscene video clips in the Assembly during a session. He demanded the Speaker of the House, Biswa  Bandhu Sen, take an exemplary step against the concerned MLA without any delay.
