Once invincible, the Leftists are facing serious existential crisis in Tripura. Successive poll drubbings, death of top leaders and poor health conditions of most of the senior leaders have put the party in worst crisis.
In the wake of such a crisis-ridden situation, Tripura Unit of CPM will hold its two-day long 23rd State Conference on February 25 next.
With election is closing nearer, CPM leaders are in desperate need to rejuvenate the organization and infuse young blood in the organization to put up an effective challenge before the formidable ruling BJP.
While deaths of top-level leaders like Gautam Das and Bijan Dhar dealth serious blows, deteriorating health condition of Badal Chowdhury and few other leaders have made the task a daunting one for the aging leaders who are at the helm now.
As the party is readying up to hold a public rally at the Astabal Maidan on Thursday in which the party’s general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Politburo leader Prakash Karat and other leaders will address the supporters followed by a two-day State level Conference, all eyes are focused on the strategies of the leaders relating to organizational rejuvenation, electoral alliance, attempt to gain youth supports and special drive to regain grounds in the tribal-dominated areas.
While speaking to the media, Party’s state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said during the party’s two-day-long state conference which will begin from February 25 at Agartala Town Hall, a series of issues including the current political situation of the state shall be discussed so as to adopt the party’s strategy in the coming days and especially for the ensuing election.
Meantime, the deck is ready for the party’s 23rd state conference scheduled to kick off from February 24 with a mega rally at Agartala Vivekananda ground.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday evening, party’s state secretary Jitendra Choudhury said, “This year as the state conference of the party is being held after three years and the main slogan of the party’s state conference shall be restoring law and order situation and peace in the state.”
“From the platform of our 23rd state conference, we will appeal for a united fight against the misrule of the BJP government in Tripura,” adding to this Choudhury said, “At least 320 party representatives from the state and abroad are to take part in the state conference starting from February 25.”
He, however, did not elaborate on what the party meant by the united fight.
