The Central and State governments are working in tandem for the development of the villages as the incumbent governments firmly believe that villages are at the center of the prosperity of society, State, and country, said Food Minister of Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury.

The Minister was speaking at a block-level ‘Interaction with the beneficiaries of PMAY’ at Jirania near Agartala on Friday. He also awarded several Panchayats under the Jirania Block for their shining performances in implementing different schemes.

Highlighting the crucial roles of the villages and Panchayats in holistic development, Chowdhury said, “Our villages are the main centers of development and self-reliance of our country and state. The role of elected members of the Gram Panchayats is to strengthen democracy and fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people of the village. The leadership of our progress and maintaining cultural heritage has always been provided by our villages”.

He pointed out that the Central and State Governments are chalking out plans and making efforts for development keeping the villages at the center.

“We strive to make our villages in modern India sustainable and self-reliant. To achieve the goal, Panchayat systems have been augmented and more powers have been divested to panchayats”, Chowdhury said.

In this connection, the Minister also said, the work of connecting every village through optical fiber net for digitizing the Panchayats is progressing rapidly.

Government schemes ranging from creating employment opportunities to constructing houses are being implemented by the Panchayats, he said and urged the public representatives of the Panchayats to expedite developmental activities keeping in mind the demands and aspirations of the villagers.

Chowdhury further said to the Panchayat members, “You are also given the necessary money to implement the schemes. Moreover, Panchayats are empowered in most cases to spend the fund on village development. So I am appealing to representatives of panchayats to take our state of Tripura to the pinnacle of development”.
