In a remarkable display of determination, Sona Ung Mog, a schoolgirl hailing from a remote area in Tripura, has proven the age-old adage that where there is a will, there is a way.
Defying the odds stacked against her, she not only passed her Madhyamik exams with flying colors but also secured a coveted spot in the prestigious ‘Super 30’ program by clearing admission test for Rajasthan’s Kota coaching center.
Under the Super 30 scheme, students can choose any reputed coaching centre outside Tripura. Government of Tripura will pay maximum Rs 1 lakh for fees and Rs 1.4 lakhs for accommodation fees per annum per student of total 30 students.
The scheme aims at providing opportunities to candidates with financially weak background. Sona successfully grabbed the opportunity.
Impressively, she is the only candidate from her sub-division, out of 14 hopefuls, who cleared the admission test.
Sona Ung Mog, the youngest daughter of an auto driver, Mangal Mog, resides in the secluded Mog Para in Narayanpur ADC village under Gandachhera in Tripura .
This year, she achieved an impressive score of 362 marks in the first division at Kabiguru Rabindranath Smriti Vidya Bhawan HS+2 School in Gandachhera.
Following her exceptional performance, she was selected for the ‘Super 30’ program, making her the sole candidate from her sub-division to pass the admission test for the Kota Coaching Centre.
The success of Sona has brought immense joy to her teachers and family members, who celebrate her remarkable achievement.
Sona’s father, Mangal Mog, proudly shared that she is the youngest among their four daughters and one son.
Sona’s mother, New Chang Mog, expressed her satisfaction at her daughter’s success, although the family is currently facing significant financial hardship – supporting a household of seven members and managing educational expenses from the paltry earnings of Mangal Mog.
Despite his modest income, he encourages his children to study.
“The government is paying to cover the coaching and accommodation expenses at the Kota Institute. However, arranging the necessary funds for Sona’s journey from the State to Rajasthan remains a challenge”, Mangal Mog said.
In his efforts to secure the required funds, Mangal Mog has attempted to obtain loans by offering his land documents as collateral. However, due to the absence of a government employee guarantor, banks have been hesitant to approve his loan application.
Yet unable to manage funds for Sona’s journey to Kota, Mangal Mog is hopeful and determined to arrange the fund for his daughter.
