Durga Puja – the biggest annual event of Hindus – is being celebrated across Tripura with enthusiasm and religious fervour.
On Saturday the state joyously commemorates Mahasaptami, a significant day in worship of Goddess Durga and her divine family.
Festivities have engulfed the entire State, with a surge of devotees gathering at Mandap Mandap as the day progresses. People of different communities, religions and ethnicity started pandap hopping since evening. Dressed in new and colourful attire, people of all age are traversing from one Puja pandal to another one.
The state capital, Agartala, is aglow with the radiance of light garlands adorning its streets, creating an enchanting atmosphere.
Similar displays of Alor Roshnai (illumination) can be witnessed in puja mandaps across various towns and semi urban areas in the state.
Pandals have been beautifully designed and prepared alongwith dazzling illumination. Idols of Maa Durga and her divine family have been gorgeously decorated. People are busy in capturing every moment of their joy. Almost all are taking snaps of the Durga idols, pandals and of course, posing for selfies.
In anticipation of the heavy rush of puja revellers, authorities have implemented traffic restrictions on various routes within Agartala city, effective from 5 pm onwards.
Superintendent of Police, Manik Lal Das, from the traffic department noted that an unexpected surge of visitors marked Mahasashti yesterday.
To ensure the safety of all revellers, a substantial number of security personnel have been deployed. Notably, there were no reported untoward incidents in the State, so far.
Das emphasized that all necessary measures have been meticulously arranged to ensure the smooth completion of the puja ceremonies.
Notably, this year’s number of Durga Puja in the West Tripura district stands at 850 and a remarkable 2,863 pujas statewide
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha inaugurated several community Durga Puja in Agartala and other parts of the State in the last couple of days.
Alongwith Puja hopping, ‘dinning out’ is popular among the revellers especially the Gen X. To cater this, several make shift food stalls with tongue twister menus are waiting.
