Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha inaugurated a programme to celebrate the 41st Foundation Day of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in Agartala on Tuesday.
In his inaugural speech, Dr Saha said, “NABARD is engaged in reducing infrastructural differences in rural areas. The NABARD sanctioned Rs 3,166.99 crore for under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) to Tripura Government”. He also highlighted several other NABARD sanctioned projects in the State.
“NABARD is running the project with 200 families in Sepahijala district and 300 families in North district. At present those families are in a profitable position. NABARD is working to inspire rural markets and fish farms. NABARD provided financial support through training. NABARD is working as a facilitator for the development of rural India. NABARD provides financial assistance to the state government at a 3.15 percent interest”, he said.
The NABARD is celebrating its 41st Foundation Day, Dr Saha recalled, NABARD started its journey with a primary capital of Rs 100 crore – and the capital increased to Rs 17,080 crore as on March 31, 2022.
“Along with adopting a commercial attitude the Bank is also working for betterment of people. Along with working for the socio-economic development of the rural areas, the Bank is also working for the growth in agri-sector through innovative, technical and institutional development”, he asserted.
Dr Saha said, “The SHG Bank linkage scheme of the NABARD has become world’s largest Micro Finance scheme. The Prime Minister is working for the welfare of the farmers – so also the NABARD. Farmers’ Producers Organization (FPO) of NABARD has encouraged the farmers of the country. The bank is also a pioneer in Watershed Development sector.
Moreover, the Indian Government entrusted NABARD as a nodal agency to computerise 63 thousand PACs in the country.
During the programme, Managers Tripura State Co-operative Bank (TSCB) and Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB) Branches were felicitated for best performances. The Chief Minister handed over momentos and certificates to concerned Branch Managers. PACs and individuals got sanction letters of different facilities.
Prior to the programme, Dr Saha flagged off a mobile ATM Van of TSCB and a mobile Rural Mart.
Among others, GM of RBI Satbant Singh Sahota, chairmen of TSCB & TGB and Secretary of State Finance dept Brijesh Pandey were also present.
