In a move to enhance agricultural production and empower farmers, the Tripura government has embarked on an ambitious initiative to bring the state’s cultivable land under cultivation.
The government is helping the farmers to produce more crops in less land. Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department of Tripura Ratan Lal Nath said.
The plan aims to maximize crop yield while minimizing land usage, fostering a sustainable and prosperous agricultural landscape.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Agriculture Sub-Division office at old Lefunga Block premises in Lefunga on Wednesday.
The Minister also said, the state government is committed to establishing such offices in all 58 blocks, bringing vital agricultural services closer to the farming community.
The Lefunga Agricultural Sub-Divisional Office is the 44th such facility in Tripura. This expansion underscores the government’s initiatives to promoting agricultural growth and enhancing the lives of farmers.
Minister Nath highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the well-being of farmers and the advancement of agriculture.
With agriculture contributing a substantial 36 percent to the state’s gross domestic product, Nath pointed to the substantial increase in farmers’ incomes. Under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Samman Nidhi Yojana, a staggering 2 lakh 46 thousand farmers in the state receive an annual assistance of Rs 6 thousand, directly bolstering their financial well-being.
In addition to this central scheme, both the Central and state governments are actively implementing various programs aimed at empowering farmers and fostering self-reliance within the agricultural sector.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Vice Chairman of Lefunga BAC Buddha Debbarma, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Subhash Dutta, Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department Dr. Phani Bhushan Jamatia, and other dignitaries.
Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Sharadindu Das delivered the welcome address, while Chairman of Lefunga BAC Ranbir Debbarma presided over the program.
