Even as 74 years elapsed since Independence, several indigenous people of Atharomura ADC village under Mungiyakami block in Tripura are reportedly being deprived of Government welfare schemes. People living in remote areas are the worst sufferers.
With Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council Polls (TTAADC) are less than a month away, pathetic pictures of life in far-flung hill areas showcase failures of CPIM controlled District Councils in meeting people’s basic requirements, local sources claimed.
In several hill areas under Teliamura in Tripura, indigenous people are deprived of Government welfare schemes – like, housing schemes, drinking water schemes etc.
Puratan Kumaray Para under Atharamura ADC village is 32 km away from Teliamura. Residents of the hamlet are still following the ancient lifestyle and dependent on wild scrubs, plants and Jhum cultivation o sustain life, sources alleged.
The villagers are facing troubles due to improper implementation or no implementation of Government schemes. Road connectivity, housing, drinking water and livelihood opportunities are big hindrances that the inhabitants are facing.
As far as basic amenities are concerned, residents of the hamlets demanded dwellings under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. “Apart from a couple of families, most of us are living in thatched huts,” a resident said. He also pointed out that Government schemes remain elusive to them.
According to sources, during monsoon season, staying in these huts becomes almost impossible. Also, it is risky to stay in these huts at a time of storm”, a resident commented.
CPIM ruled ADC neglected the plight of the villagers. Several appeals were made to local leaders to allot houses under Government welfare schemes. Excluding assurances, nothing concrete happened and their plight remained unabated.
“Our deprivation is continuing for ages. We expected a new government would address our problems – however, nothing changed, so far”, an elderly woman said and appealed to the Government to ensure the availability of basic amenities.
