Tripura Government has announced a 12 per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) for all government employees and retired employees (DR) on Tuesday (Dec 27, 2022). Besides, the Government has also announced an over 50 per cent hike in remuneration of DRWs, MRWs, PTWs and Contingent staff.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha in presence of Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma who also holds Finance portfolio and concerned officials held a press meeting in Agartala to make the announcement.

 

In the poll-bound Tripura, the announcement was promptly welcomed by the ruling BJP leaders, Ministers and several employee bodies.  

 

On earlier occasions, the ruling BJP announced total 8 (3 + 5 ) per cent DA after assuming power in 2018. After the release of the 12 per cent DA/DR, the total DA/DR now stands at 20 per cent.

 

Dr Saha said the decision was taken despite the paucity of funds.

 

“12 per cent of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for government employees and retired employees with effect from December 01, 2022 would be given”, Dr Saha said.

 

The decision will be applicable to Fixed Pay Group C and D category employees also.

 

He said, the decision will benefit 1 lakh  4 thousand 600 regular employees and about 80 thousand 800 pensioners/ families. 

 

In another major decision, the Chief Minister announced over 50 per cent hike in remuneration of DRWs, MRWs, PTWs and Contingent workers. The decision would benefit over 8600 workers in various categories.

 

Dr Saha further said, “Both these decisions of the Government will put an additional amount of around Rs 120 Cr per month and Rs 1440 crore per annum in the hands of employees and pensioners benefitting about 1,94,000 persons/ families in the State. 

An additional amount of Rs 1440 crore would be required annually to implement both decisions, he said.
