Besides, it has also approved launching a scheme under the Mission 100 as well as took a crucial decision pertaining to ‘unutilized’ schools aiming to enhance the quality of education in the State.
ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced this in Agartala on Tuesday while briefing media about the decisions taken in today’s State Cabinet meeting.
Tripura Data Centre Policy 2021:
The Minister announced that Council of Ministers of the State had approved the proposal to introduce the ‘Tripura Data Centre Policy 2021’ under Industries and Commerce (IT) Department.
Sushanta Chowdhury said that the cabinet had given nod to the policy with an aim to attract reputed IT companies for investment in Tripura. He said the decision aims at generating employment scopes among the youths who are passing out of colleges and higher education institutions.
“If any IT company or agency shows interest to set up Data Centre in the state, the government will provide them various facilities including subsidy in rent of infrastructure and electricity charge in view of the employment of state’s youths,” Chowdhury told the media.
‘Vidya Jyoti Schools’ scheme:
In another important decision, the cabinet approved the introduction of ‘Vidya Jyoti Schools’ scheme under the Mission-100.
Chowdhury said, “Total 100 High and Higher Secondary Schools from all eight districts will be identified as ‘Vidya Jyoti Schools’ under Mission 100. These schools will be brought under the Centre of Excellence with various facilities ensuring an improvement in quality of education for the benefits of students.”
Decision on ‘unutilized’ schools:
The ICA minister said there are many schools in the state which are lying unutilized following various reasons.
The state government has now decided to invite CBSE-affiliated reputed educational institutions through Expression of Interest to start academic activities in the unused school buildings.
“They will bear the whole expenditure; the state government will have no share. The government will provide the infrastructures based on Memorandum of Understanding. It will help improve the quality of Education,” Chowdhury said.
He said the state government already prepared a policy to regulate and encourage private participation in the School Education department. The participants (category wise) have to meet certain criteria to be prescribed by the School Education department.
According to Chowdhury, the number of unused schools is yet to be ascertained. It will be reviewed twice a year to identify the unutilized schools.
Tenure of JRBT extended:
The cabinet decisions also included extension of tenure of Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT).
Chowdhury said the tenure of JRBT would come to an end in November next. The JRBT already conducted examinations for recruitment in Group-C and D posts. The recruitment process may be disrupted following the upcoming civic body polls. So, the cabinet approved extension of JRBT’s tenure for one year, the ICA minister told the media.
