Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury said that the state government would soon introduce a health insurance scheme for the media persons of the State.
The ICA minister held a meeting with the representatives of various media houses at the State Guest House on Saturday and discussed various matters in length.
In the meeting, Chowdhury took opinions of senior journalists regarding the health insurance scheme for the journalists and also discussed the criteria for selection of the beneficiaries.
Director of ICA department- Ratan Biswas and Secretary of Agartala Press Club Pranab Sarkar among others were present in the meeting.
Later in a Facebook post, Chowdhury wrote that the state government’s decision was a token of respect to the profession and works of the journalists. The journalists and photo-journalists up to the sub-division level would receive the benefit of the health insurance scheme, he added.
Tripura Bar Association poll results
The Save Constitution Forum, backed by the Left, Congress and others, swept the Tripura Bar Association polls winning ten out of 15 seats on Saturday.
As per the poll results announced by the Returning Officer Sandeep Dutta Chowdhury, Mrinal Kanti Biswas, who contested the polls from the Save Constitution Forum, was elected as the president of the Tripura Bar Association while Kaushik Indu of the same panel was elected as secretary.
Dr. Pankaj Banik of BJP-backed Ainjibi Unnayan Mancha was elected as the vice-president while Utpal Das of the same panel and Amar Debbarma of the Save Constitution Forum were elected as assistant secretaries.
Three candidates of Ainjibi Unnayan Mancha- Arpan Das, Animesh Bhowmik and Baishakhi Chakraborty were elected as members from the Ainjibi Unnayan Mancha.
The other members, who secured victory from the Save Constitution Forum, are- Arghya Kusum Paul, Manisha Majumder, Deeptanu Debnath, Prasenjeet Debnath, Pulak Saha, Niladri Mukherjee and Soma Roy.
According to the Returning Officer, there were 416 voters and total 391 votes were cast in three polling booths. Arghya Kusum Paul received the highest 222 votes in the Tripura Bar Association elections.
