Tripura Government has taken another step to create opportunities for the Janajati (indigenous) people of the State self-reliant. The State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha gave its nod to a new scheme.
Besides, to strengthen the Integrated Child Development initiatives in rural areas, the State Cabinet green signalled to open 240 Anganwadi Centres in Gram Panchayat and District council areas.
Briefing the Cabinet decisions to the media, State Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the cabinet approved a new scheme- ‘Puna Bonia’ for making the Janajati people self-employed.
He said, the scheme was cleared by the council of ministers on July 12 last. The ‘Puna Bonia’ Scheme aimed at generating self-employment for the Janajati youths through gottery.
The beneficiaries of the ‘Puna Bonia’ scheme, who are members of Self Help Groups, would be given a loan for purchasing goats, Nath told the reporters.
The expenditure for every beneficiary would be Rs. 2.51 lakh. Twelve goats would be given for one unit. The beneficiaries may also procure goats from the open market or through the Animal Resources Development department, Nath said.
Talking about another important decision, the state government decided to open 240 new Anganwadi Centres across the state, said Education minister Ratanlal Nath.
The Anganwadi Centres would function under the Integrated Child Development Project of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, Nath said in a press conference on Thursday.
As per the decision, 22 new Anganwadi Centres would be set up at the places of Bru rehabilitation, 31 would be opened in West Tripura, Khowai and South Tripura districts each, 37 at Gomati district, 27 in Dhalai district, 25 at Sepahijala, 22 at Unakoti and 14 Anganwadi Centres would be set up at North Tripura district, Nath told the reporters.
Nath said, at present 9911 Anganwadi Centres are functioning in the state.
