In a significant boost to Tripura’s healthcare sector, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced plans to establish Ayurvedic and Homeopathy Medical Colleges in the state. The announcement came during his visit to the State Ayurvedic Hospital in Agartala on Monday.
Dr. Saha, accompanied by Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, inspected the hospital’s facilities, interacted with staff and patients, and gained firsthand insight into its operations. Reflecting on his visit, the Chief Minister acknowledged the high demand for services at the hospital.
“People have high expectations regarding the State Ayurvedic Hospital. A significant number of patients visit daily. Therefore, I came here to inspect the overall situation,” The Chief Minister said.
Talking about the existing infrastructure, Dr. Saha highlighted plans to utilize the hospital’s new building for an Ayurvedic Medical College. “A letter has been sent to the Centre by the Health Secretary regarding this matter,” he informed the media. “We are hopeful that any outstanding issues will be resolved soon,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister further outlined a phased approach, with the Ayurvedic Medical College taking precedence, followed by the establishment of a Homeopathy Medical College. He emphasized the swift resolution of any hurdles and expressed optimism about the project’s timely completion. Besides, plans for the expansion of the hospital building’s infrastructure were discussed.
The initiative by the Tripura government is in line with its commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare for its citizens.
“The establishment of these new medical colleges will not only provide much-needed specialists in Ayurveda and Homeopathy but also create new educational and professional opportunities within the state”, sources said.
