The largest Oxygen plant in the North Eastern Region (NER) was inaugurated at the IGM Hospital in Agartala on Wednesday. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the oxygen plant (PSU) which has a capacity is 1050 LPM. He also inaugurated a project—beautification of a water body in the hospital premises.

Notably, IGM is the second busiest Hospital after the GB Hospital in the State.

In his inaugural speech, the Chief Minister said lack of infrastructure was one of the biggest problems that the IGM Hospital had to endure. Apart from infra issues, the planning of hospital building construction was also not proper – like sufferings of the orthopedics patients due to lack of ramp, he said.

Dr Saha emphasized on optimum utilization of the new building of the hospital. Meanwhile, an instruction was already passed to the authority concerned to shift all the departments to the new building.

The Chief Minister opined the health servicein the State has improved after effective steps were taken by the state government. In this connection, Dr Saha said the government is taking initiatives to ensure quality healthcare in the Primary Health Centers, Sub-Health Centers and other hospitals.

MLA Dr. Dilip Das, who was also present in the inaugural programme, said efforts are underway to transform the IGM hospital into a model hospital. According to Das, an initiative was taken to inaugurate the new building of the IGM hospital soon.

Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, Tripura Mission Director of NHM Subhasis Das, Health secretary Dr. Debasis Basu, Director of Tripura Health Services Dr. Subhasis Debbarma, Medical Superintendent of IGM hospital- Dr. Sharmila Sarkar and other officials were present in the inaugural ceremony.

A representative of United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) Shoko Noda also joined the programme from New Delhi through video conference.
