After its elevation to the status of a District Court in 2018, for the first time the Khowai District Court in Tripura awarded death penalty to a man for raping and brutally killing a 5 years old girl. The Court sentenced Kalicharan Tripura (Abhijit) to death for his heinous crime on Wednesday (June 29).
As per the details, the 5-year-old girl went missing from Duski Nishan Chandrapara under Teliamura police station area in Tripura on February 22, 2021.
Unable to find out the missing girl, the father of the minor girl lodged a missing complaint with the Teliamura police station on February 26, 2021. Teliamura police station SI Bidbeshwar Sinha started investigation after receiving a complaint of disappearance of the girl.
Police arrested one Kalicharan Tripura (Abhijit) on suspicion and started interrogation. Kalicharan Tripura was known to the victim.
Later, based on the confession of Kalicharan, the blood soaked body of the minor recovered from a dense forest in Duski area on February 27, 2021. An autopsy was conducted at Teliamura Hospital and Forensic tests were conducted on most parts of the body.
Almost within a month after starting the investigation, concerned Police officer, Bidbeshwar Sinha filed a charge sheet in the court on March 25, 2021 under sections 375AB / 302/201 IPC sec 6 of POCSO Act.
After a prolonged hearing, Judge of the Khowai District Court, Justice Sankari Das awarded death sentence to Kalicharan on Wednesday.
Advocate Ajit Sarkar conducted the case on behalf of the government. A total of 35 people testified.
