Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced health insurance scheme for media people along with several other facilities on Sunday while addressing 1st State level conference of Forum for Development and Protection of Media Community (FDPMC) in Agartala.
Biplab Kumar Deb said, “Media people will be the state government will extend an insurance cover under Ayushman Tripura Scheme for the families of media personnel of the working in the state. The state government will bear the medical expenditure upto Rs 5 lakh. The insurance cover will be extended under the Ayushman Tripura Scheme”.
The announcement came as a fulfilment of the promise made FDPMC during Agartala Press Club elections on November 8 last.
Apart from that, the Chief Minister also laid emphasis on creating livelihood opportunities of working journalists who come from underprivileged background.
“I want to suggest the leaders of FDPMC that they should prepare a list of journalists who belong to financially weaker section. The state government will leave no stones unturned to work for the betterment of their livelihood opportunities”, said the Chief Minister.
According to the Chief Minister, the concept of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” also apply for the journalists. Those who want to become self-reliant are also welcome the government and the entire media community should help them to come forward and become financially stable.
The Chief Minister also sought cooperation from all sections of the media and laid emphasis on united effort to make Tripura the best state. “I seek support and cooperation of the media fraternity to make Tripura a model state”, he said.
The Chief Minister also announced the government would deliver 300 more press jackets, as demanded by FDPMC for the working journalists to cover the left over media persons, especially in districts who did not receive the jacket at the first place.
Meanwhile, apart from the Chief Minister, education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, senior editors Pijush Biswas of Jagaran Patrika and Sanjib Deb of North East Colours as well as other eminent journalists, representative of Hawker’s Union and FDPMC leaders were present in the dais. Senior journalist Jayanta Bhattacharjee presided over the meeting.
Delegates from all over the State assembled at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan today since 10am and long queues for registration were observed. Around 600 people associated with media fraternity attended the conference as delegates.
At the end of the Conference, secretary of Agartala Press Club and FDPMC leader Pranab Sarkar announced a 39-member State Committee of FDPMC along with a two-member advisory committee. Veteran Editor Pijush Biswas will lead the advisory committee while Jayanta Bhattacharjee has been selected as the president of FDPMC State Committee. Sebak Bhattacharjee of News Vanguard will be the State Committee secretary and Bikash Dhar has been selected as Treasurer.
