Transport Minister of Tripura, Sushanta Chowdhury handed over a certificate along with a reward of Rs 5,000 to Ajay Roy of Baikhora under the South Tripura district on Friday for saving lives of two accident victims. The certificate and reward were given under the “Good Samaritan Scheme” project of the Central Government.
Under the “Good Samaritan Scheme” project, if someone helps an accident victim on the road and takes them to the hospital, the central government transfer a reward of Rs 5,000 to the bank account of the good Samaritan. Ajay Roy, who is a professional autorickshaw driver, was awarded for his noble work.
Meantime, Chowdhury chaired a meeting of the State Road Safety Council in Agartala today and reviewed the measures taken by the Transport Department in accordance with the decisions of the latest meeting of the State Road Safety Council. He emphasised usages of advanced technology to prevent road accident.
He said, the government of Tripura is working with a multifaceted program to prevent road accidents and reduce the rate of death due to accidents.
If there is proper awareness and if traffic rules are followed, the number of road accidents can be reduced significantly, said Transport Minister of Tripura Sushanta Chowdhury in Agartala on Friday.
Detailing the initiatives taken for road safety, Transport Department Commissioner Subrata Chowdhury said there is a road safety committee in every district of the state. In 2023, these committees had organized a total of 20 meetings to prevent road safety and accidents.
In accordance with the decisions of those meetings, plans have been made to identify accident-prone areas in each district of the state and provide basic life support assistance there. In this case, the help of the Health Department is also sought.
