The Government will take steps to re-start the Deaf and Dumb School at Kailashahar in Tripura, said Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik. She also hailed the activities of District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) of Kailashahar under Unakoti district in Tripura.

In a whirlwind tour, the MoS visited Kailashahar on Wednesday during which she inspected renovation works of the DDRC at Kailashahar and also the Deaf and Dumb School. She also held a meeting with the Kailashahar Municipal Council Members and later, interacted with the media persons of Kailashahar.

Bhoumik expressed satisfaction at the renovation works of the Kailashahar DDRC. She inspected and reviewed the ongoing works at the DDRC.

She went to get ground-level information on the Deaf and Dumb School in Kailashahar. The Deaf and Dumb School at Kailashahar remained closed for the last few years owing to a severe financial crisis. After visiting the School, the MoS held a meeting with the councillors of the Kailashahar Municipal Council and discussed various issues including the implementation of developmental schemes.

During her interaction with the media, she detailed the DDRC and the Deaf and Dumb School.

Speaking to the media persons, the MoS said, the Kailashahar DDRC will undergo further modernization drive and at present, the Centre is rendering satisfactory services to the people. She informed the media, DDRCs exist in four out of the eight districts – soon, steps will be taken to set up DDRCs in the remaining four districts.

On the Deaf and Dumb School in Kailashahar, Bhoumik said she would talk to the Central Government and would take steps to re-open the School.
