MP Biplab Kumar Deb participated in the budget discussion in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Hailing the budget proposals, Deb highlighted that the Union Budget 2024-25 is focused on improving the lives of farmers, women, young people, and small businesses.
He said, a significant portion of the budget, 18.2%, is allocated for Capital expenditure which will augur investments in infrastructure and create more jobs.
Besides, the government plans to provide training opportunities to youths in 500 companies. These trainees will receive a stipend of Rs. 6,000 in the first month and Rs. 5,000 in the following months.
The MP also mentioned a substantial increase of Rs. 25,000 crore in the budget allocation was proposed MNREGA.
Commending the Modi administration’s advancements in the northeast, Deb highlighted that the number of airports has increased from nine during Congress rule to 16 under Modi’s tenure.
He noted that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet have frequently visited the northeast to boost its development, in stark contrast to the corruption that was rampant under Congress.
Deb pointed out, a new initiative aimed at improving air connectivity and aviation infrastructure. The budget for the civil aviation ministry for the current fiscal year includes Rs 502 crore for the Regional Air Connectivity Scheme.
According to the Union Budget 2024-25, these funds will be used to revive 22 airports, launch 124 routes, and provide Viability Gap Funding for North East Connectivity, said the Tripura MP.
Deb firmly rejected the Congress’ claims that the budget was biased against states governed by the opposition, asserting that the Modi government has prioritized every state and all segments of society.
He pointed out that an additional Rs 4.82 lakh crore has been allocated for the comprehensive development of states.
Deb’s speech, lasting about 40 minutes, was perhaps the longest ever delivered by a Tripura MP in Parliament.
The ex-Tripura Chief Minister also reproached the Congress and other opposition parties for alleging that the Constitution is at risk.
Deb reminded the Lok Sabha of the Congress government imposing the Emergency in 1975 for the benefit of “one person and one family,” a reference to then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He accused the Congress of invoking Article 356, which permits President’s Rule in states, at least 70 times, thereby compromising the Constitution.
