Information Technology Minister of Tripura, Pranajit Singha Roy emphaized the importance of smartphones for students saying that in the digital age, smartphones are essential for students to be successful in the Digital Tripura program. 

While inaugurating the Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogayog Yojana (MYYY) for the academic year 2023-24 at the Information Technology Building in Indranagar today, Singha Roy also asserted, Students are capable of playing a vital role in the development of the state and the nation.

At the event, the IT Minister said that students studying in the final year of all government educational institutions in the state can apply for this project by January 15, 2024. 

Students must apply on the BSMS portal (https://bms.tripura.gov.in/) to get the benefit of purchasing a smartphone. The government will provide this assistance to the students in their bank accounts.

Singha Roy underscored, in today’s time, smartphones are a very important electronic device for students for online courses or classes. Under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogayog Yojana (MYYY), the government will provide a maximum of Rs 5,000 assistance to each student for purchasing a smartphone. 

Tripura-Mukhyamantri-Yuva-Yogayog-YojanaHe said it is not possible for many parents to purchase smartphones for their children. That is why the government is providing assistance under the MYYY.

The IT Minister further said at the event that the target of 12,000 students was set for this scheme in the 2023-24 academic year and Rs 6 crore was allocated in the current budget for the Mukhyamantri Yuva Yogayog Yojana. 

However, at the initiative of Chief Minister Professor (Dr) Manik Saha, it has been decided to bring 19,796 students studying in the final year of all government educational institutions in the state under this scheme in the 2023-24 academic year. For this, the need for funds has been increased to Rs 9.49 crore. 

It is to be mentioned that this scheme has been implemented since the financial year 2020-21. In the financial year 2020-21, 7,274 students, in the financial year 2021-22, 9,579 students, and in the financial year 2022-23, 11,892 students have benefited from this scheme. In the last 3 financial years, 28,745 students have benefited from this scheme. For this, Rs 14.37 crore has been spent.

Singha Roy also said that the government has started the e-office system in every government office. The target of achieving a paperless office by December 31, 2023 has been set, he said.

The inaugural event was attended by Information Technology Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Additional Director of Information Technology Department Bidyut Deb, Additional Director of Information Technology Department Uttam Poddar, nodal officers of various educational institutions, and final year students. 

Besides, the heads of educational institutions also joined the inaugural event through video conferencing.
