The Rail services will run from Agartala to Howrah and New Delhi. Kishan Rail will help the farmers of the State to access markets outside the State.
The Ministry of Railways has decided to run Kisan Rail from Agartala, benefitting thousands of farmers of Tripura to send their produces—fruits like jackfruit, pineapple and lemon along with other crops to various parts of the country.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb shared the update on his Facebook handle on Wednesday. He extended gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal for taking the decision based on the state’s proposal.
As per the update, the Agartala- New Delhi train will leave from Agartala on June, 11 and 25, and 9, 16 and 23 of July next while the Howrah-bound train will depart from Agartala on 16 and 30 of June and 7, 14, 21 and 28 of July next.
The transportation cost for crops will cost Rs. 2025 per ton up to Howrah, Rs. 882 per ton up to Guwahati and Rs. 2815 per ton up to New Delhi. In the journey from Agartala, both the trains will halt at Ambassa and Kumarghat railway stations of the state.
The Chief Minister in his post wrote, “Now, the crops produced by the state’s farmers will reach different markets of the country. It will not only make the farmers financially strong but also take their efforts to the national level.”
Notably, the State Government recently announced fresh paddy procurement drive which aims to keep farmers financially in sustainable condition even during harsh Covid situation. Like paddy procurement drive, the Kisan Rail will open new avenues for farmers of the State to earn a decent earning. It is expected to benefit the farmers engaged in cultivation of fruits and other crops.
