The TTAADC administration on Friday extended sincere thanks to Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for allotting one oxygen plant for Khumulwng Community Health Centre. Addressing a press conference here in Rajander, Executive Member for health department Kamal Kaloi said, “A delegation of the new council has met Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb after assuming the office. During the meeting, the Chief Minister has been requested to allot one oxygen plant for the Khumulwng hospital. He has agreed and within a few days, the oxygen plant will be installed in the Kherangbar community health centre. We thank Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for his speedy redressal of the problem”.

At a time when Covid 19 is transmitting in a rapid pace in Tripura’s rural parts, this initiative will certainly help the TTAADC administration in dealing with pandemic effectively, Kaloi pointed out and demanded that the Khumulwng hospital should be upgraded into a FRU (first referral unit) level hospital.

Apart from that, he said, “we also want to develop three model hospitals. Today, our hospitals don’t have CT scan machines, we don’t have a functioning X-ray machine. We have placed a proposal before the Chief Minister who is also holding the charge of the health department for his attention to the matter.

Taking over from him, TIPRA motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman said, he has arranged a total of 71 oxygen concentrators from Swastha Digital Health Foundation and ACT grants. “One of my friends has introduced me to the foundations who have come with a very good support for us. We are getting oxygen concentrators worth Rs 72 to 75 lakh. We are trying our best to extend help to every person in need” said Debbarman.

According to Debbarman, the Khumulwng hospital was started in the year of 1997 but after two decades of existence the hospital did not have a separate toilet for the women patients. “we don’t want a separate infrastructure but a good intention to serve the people with limited capacity. But at the same time, it is imperative to share with people about the precarious condition of our health infrastructure in the TTAADC areas”, he added.  (Courtesy: Tripura Times)
