Displaced Bru: More 107 families rehabilitated
Another batch of displaced Bru people was sent for permanent settlement in Tripura on Thursday.
As per a quadripartite agreement, rehabilitation of displaced Bru people in Tripura – from refugee camps in Kanchanpur sub-division under North Tripura to other identified locations is making progress.
As a part of the rehabilitation process, a total of 107 Bru families of shelted in refugee camps under Kanchanpur sub-division were rehabilitated at West Kalajhari area on Thursday.
According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Kanchanpur – Subhasis Acharya, there were total 6959 families in the sub-division. Among them, 2450 families were already sent to rehabilitation centers for permanent settlement.
The quadripartite agreement was signed between the Ministry of Home Affairs, Governments of Tripura and Mizoram and Bru representatives in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The permanent settlement of Bru people in Tripura had started on April 13 last.
The Bru Reang Tribal families were sheltered in seven relief camps in North Tripura after they fled from Mizoram 24 years ago following an ethnic strife in the adjoining state.
Border crossing: BSF detain 10 Indians on suspicion, later freed
Ten Indian nationals were detained by BSF from a house in Kamthana area in Tripura on their way to India from Bangladesh. It is learnt that they North 24 Parganas of West Bengal.
It is learnt, a group of 10 Indian nationals crossed the India-Bangladesh through Boxanagar-Kamthana area on Wednesday and took shelter at the residence of one Rumena Begum.
Meantime, BSF authority got the information and raided the house of Rumena Begum. They detained 10 persons who entered into Tripura – it is believed Rumena Begum as an agent helped them to enter into Tripura.
Later the detained persons were brought to Madhupur Police Station on Thursday. The detainees produced valid documents like Aadhar cards etc. After interrogating them, Police freed them and told them to return to their native place.
