CM to inaugurate famous Melaghar Rath Yatra
Enthusiasm is running high among the devotees and small time vendors as Melaghar in Tripura is gearing up to host its famous Rath Yatra Festival – the biggest of its kind in the North Eastern region – after the Covid pandemic.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will inaugurate Rath Yatra at Jagannath Bari in Melaghar under Sepahijala district in Tripura on Thursday. He will also inaugurate the 8-day long Rath Mela and cultural programmes there. Among others, DM of Sepahijala Viswashree B will remain present in the programme.
After the inauguration, the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram and Devi Subhadra, amidst chanting of Vedic Mantras, will roll out on Friday afternoon.
This year Melaghar will host the 59th edition of the Rath Yatra. After a rather dull celebration for two successive years owing to the Corona pandemic, this year preparations are in full swing for a mega celebration. Like previous years, the height of the Rath will be 58 ft and the width is 22 ft.
Daily worshipping of the three divine siblings – Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram and Devi Subhadra – started in 1964 and is being continued. Plans have been taken to expand the Jagannath Bari temple.
Bru Reangs place 10-pt demand
Bru Reang refugees from different villages under Kanchanpur subdivision conducted a mass rally at Kanchanpur on Wednesday. Later a delegation placed deputation to the SDM in support of a 10-point of demands.
The major demands included: implementation of the central government’s resettlement package by August 31, resumption of distribution of ration materials, immediate resettlement of the Bru refugee families under Dashda RD block, the launch of pending relief packages and other demands related to rehabilitation.
Among others, president of MBDPF ASawibunga general secretary of MBDPF Bruno Msha remained present in the delegation.
Expressing hope that the government would meet their demands as early as possible, the Bru refugee leaders warned that they go for a larger movement in the coming days if their demands were not met immediately. The SDM assured the Bru leaders that the administration would send their memorandum to the Chief Minister.
