Kumar Alok, IAS will be new Chief Secretary of Tripura.
The incumbent Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar, IAS has been transferred and posted as the Special Chief Resident Commissioner, Tripura Bhawan in New Delhi with immediate effect, and until further orders. He is also declared as Head of the Department, Tripura Bhawan, New Delhi, in addition.
In a notification issued on Tuesday by Under Secretary, Govt of Tripura, MD H Rahaman, it was mentioned that “Consequent Upon transfer of Shri Manoj Kumar IAS (TR : 1990), Chief Secretary, Government of Tripura and in the interest of public service, the Governor is pleased to order that on premature repatriation from Central deputation, Shri Alok Kumar, IAS (TR : 1990), presently posted as Additional Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat (SR), Govt of India, is appointed as the Chief Secretary, Government of Tripura with effect from the date he assumes the charge and until further orders”.
The notification also mentioned charges of the department that Alok Kumar, IAS will hold until further order. It read, General Administration (Confidential & Cabinet), General Administration (Personnel and Training) and Home (excluding Jail and Fire & Emergency services).
As Manoj Kumar, IAS has been transferred and posted with immediate effect, the charges of the departments that he held will remain with the Senior most Principal Secretary, Govt of Tripura, in addition till joining of the new Chief Secretary, Govt of Tripura, a separate notification read.
Kumar Alok, the 1990 batch IAS was once one of the most powerful bureaucrats in the state and considered as close to Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. He had gone back to Delhi and joined the Union administration as Additional Secretary to Cabinet secretariat. However, the State government pressed the centre for his repatriation and the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet approved his return.
