IPFT president and Revenue Minister in BJP-IPFT government, NC Debbarma on Wednesday met with opposition at his own constituency—Takarjala as hundreds of people waved black flags and shouted “go back” slogans targeting him.
Local supporters of the IPFT party, however, blamed the TIPRA motha for the entire drama and said that the crowd was politically motivated.
Sources said, Debbarma went to attend a party’s internal meeting at Takarjala Community Hall in the morning. Accordingly, police arrangements have been tightened up and adequate force was deployed. At around 1 pm in the afternoon, people started to gather in front the community hall with black flags. The police, immediately, swung into action and put up barricades to thwart the crowd from moving ahead.
Soon, the gathered crowd started waving black flags and chanting “go back” slogans targeting Debbarma. The crowd laid a siege surrounding the community hall’s security shield delaying Debbarma’s exit from the community hall. The agitators had been heard alleging that the IPFT supremo stalled the development activities of the TTAADC areas for the good of his own party.
Reacting to the issue, the minister said, “this can not continue in a democratic state. This is clear hooliganism, the law and order situation has stooped to a new low in the state. Not as a minister, as a responsible citizen of the state, I am urging the home department of the state to take stern actions”.
SDPO Jampuijala Himadri Prasad Das said, “an angry crowd gathered in front of the community hall and cried slogans against the Minister. Prompt police action brought the situation under control and the minister left with his escort after his programme was over”.
It is also worthy to be mentioned here that the IPFT party drew a blank in the just concluded TTAADC elections with NC Debbarma’s candidate losing his stronghold Takarjala to TIPRA motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman.
