Opposition leader hits campaign trails
The opposition leader and CPM Politburo member Manik Sarkar walked with others in support f the Left Front nominated candidate in 6-Agartala on Friday. He took part in a door-to-door visit on Friday to campaign for Krishna Majumder, the candidate of 6-Agartala assembly constituency for the ensuing by-elections.
Locked in a multi-corner poll battle, Krishna Majumder will contest against the BJP leader Dr. Ashok Sinha, Congress candidate Sudip Roy Barman and Trinamool Congress candidate Panna Deb.
Manik Sarkar was accompanied by the former MP Sankar Prasad Dutta, women leader Krishna Rakshit and other party leaders. Sarkar on Friday sought votes for the CPI-M party in the by-elections from the people of 6-Agartala constituency and alleged that people are deprived at large from their basic necessities under the rule of BJP government.
“During my visit I received series of complaints from the common people, especially those belonging to the poor section, that they are deprived of their basic necessities in the ration shops. They complained of inflation of daily essentials and expressed their depression,” Sarkar told reporters during his visit.
Unnatural deaths: CPM leaders meet Police
The opposition CPI-M party alleged rate of unnatural deaths is rising in the state under the BJP government and questioned the role of police over the investigations on the unnatural deaths.
A delegation of CPM met the OC of the West Police station – Subrata Chakraborty to this end.
During the meeting with the OC, the representatives of the CPI-M party including the former MP Sankar Prasad Dutta, party’s Sadar district president Ratan Das, women leader Krishna Rakshit and other senior party leaders referred to the recovery of a body of a woman from a Dimsagar lake here at Agartala on Friday and demanded for a thorough investigation on the recovery of the body of a woman.
“We expressed out worries over the recovery of a body of a tribal woman from the lake and demanded the OC of West Agartala police station to initiate thorough investigation into the death and unearth the cause of the death, as the death is unnatural, it might be killing, murder or any other cause,” Ratan Das told the media on Friday.
