This marks the first time a para-swimmer from Tripura has been decorated with an international medal.

Binit, who has long aspired to represent his state and country on the global stage, saw his dream materialize as he donned the Indian jersey and clinched a medal. His victory at the international level follows a string of successes at national competitions, further cementing his status as one of Tripura’s most celebrated para-swimmers.

The championships saw two para-swimmers from Tripura, Binit Roy and Samir Barman, compete for the first time. Binit’s bronze medal win in his debut international competition has sparked joy and pride across the state.

The duo from Tripura made waves in the swimming pool, demonstrating their skills and performance with remarkable expertise. The championship witnessed participation from 131 of the world’s best swimmers from 21 countries.

After undergoing rigorous medical tests, Binit and Samir received clearance to participate in the international event. Both swimmers qualified in the classification, with Samir Barman competing in Heat One and securing the S-eight position.
