Chief Minister of Tripura Prof. Dr. Manik Saha marked ‘Police Commemoration Day’ on Saturday at the Manoranjan Debvbarma Memorial Stadium in the Arundhati Nagar Police Line, Agartala.
During the ceremony, he emphasized the crucial role of police forces in safeguarding society.
On this solemn occasion, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, along with other senior officials, paid their respects to 188 police and security forces personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty between September 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023. The wreath-laying ceremony was a poignant tribute to their sacrifice.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister urged the police force to be responsive to the concerns of the people and to actively seek solutions to their problems. He emphasized the importance of taking legal action, including the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to address drug-related issues as part of the ‘Nesha Mukt Tripura’ campaign.
Prof. Dr. Manik Saha lauded Tripura’s achievements in combating the drug menace, with the state leading the Northeast region in the recovery and destruction of drug-related materials. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to gender diversity in the security forces, with 33 percent of police recruitment seats reserved for women. Notably, 137 women jawans have recently been inducted into the TSR force.
Tripura’s dedication to enhancing security is evident as every police station in the state has been equipped with CCTV cameras. Additionally, plans are underway to install artificial intelligence-based CCTV cameras to bolster surveillance efforts, he asserted.
The Chief Minister announced that 11 police stations have been upgraded to more modern facilities. As of now, Tripura boasts a total of 101 police stations across the state.
One remarkable aspect of Tripura’s commitment to women’s safety is that it is the only state in the Northeast region where every district has a dedicated women’s police station.
On this Police Commemoration Day, Dr Saha paid rich tribute to the heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the security of the state and expressed the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order in Tripura.
